Chapter 3
They arrived just after Thomas had put his bike in the bike rack. He walked right in ignoring the sight of Rachel. What's his problem? Asked Molly. It's nothing we just got in to a small fight is all. Replied Rachel. I guess we're just stressed and nervous. At that they walked into the hospital without talking to Thomas. First Thomas got to visit and didn't stay for his full twenty minuets. It was more like ten because Jayson had gotten worse and more machines were added. It was to painful to even see. In the past night his heart almost gave out twice and the doctors are thinking about surgery.
Thomas came out looking crushed and hurt. He left with only one look at Rachel and her friend.
Rachel and Molly went next. Rachel felt the same pain as Thomas had felt when he had saw him. Tears filled her eyes almost instantly. Molly didn't really feel the same. She was worried but she wasn't as close to him as Rachel and Thomas. Rachel tried to stay but she eventually left within eighteen minuets. The two girls didn't talk on the way back to their homes. Molly lived a street away from Rachel,Thomas, and Jayson. Rachel went to her room and called Thomas. She felt awful about their fight and needed someone who shared the same pain to talk to.
He didn't answer until the second time she had called him. Her calls were ten minuets apart.
Hello. He answered. Rachel? What do you need? Can you come over? She replied. I need someone to talk to. I'll be over in about three minuets. He answered. What's wrong? I'll tell you when you get here. She said. Just please come. At that they hung up.

Thomas arrived shortly after their talk on the phone. Rachel took him up stairs to her room and told him why she had asked him over.
I just wanted to make sure we were still friends. Said Rachel. I also wanted to say I was sorry.
Sorry for what? Replied Thomas. I'm the one who acted like a jerk. You did nothing. I'm the one who should be sorry. I guess I was just stressed. Thanks for coming over. She said. I've been miserable these past few days and being mad at you didn’t help. You and Jayson are my only real friends. I mean Molly’s great but she doesn't compare to you guys. So do want to do some more research? He asked. I feel even worse when I’m not doing anything to try and help. Sure. She replied. We could go to the library first. Sure. He answered. Then where? I don't know. She said. I guess we'll figure it out later. They then got up to leave. They searched through all the medical books and tapes again but still found nothing.
They searched for hours but nothing they hadn't seen before. So now what? Said Thomas. We basically turned that place inside out.
I know. Replied Rachel. Hey. Is it okay if we stop by the book shop? We can search for something there. Couldn't hurt to try. He answered. They walked down the block to a small shop called books by the ton. We're here. Said Rachel. I hope there's something in here that can help.

Me too. Answered Thomas. Well let's go in.

The place was cluttered with shelves of books and books were scattered all over the place. They were on the floor and in large boxes waiting to be unpacked. Over the desk was a guy in his late twenty’s reading a thick book with the title worn off the cover.
He barely noticed them come in. Excuse me. Said Rachel. Where are your medical books? Over on the right side of the store. He replied. Why? Home-work project. Said Thomas. Rachel and Thomas had decided that the were going to keep their research to themselves so that their parents wouldn't think that they were so nervous that they would lecture them for hours and tell them they couldn't visit Jayson for awhile. The clerk shrugged and went back to his book. Rachel found a ton of medical books and other things related to it. They searched for hours and hours. Night drew near and they would have to go home soon. They had decided to come back and look some more tomorrow. Tomorrow was saturday and they didn't have to be back at their home until dinner and then they could go out again and be back at around nine. Rachel looked through a large brown cardboard box before they left. She all through and found nothing until she uncovered the very bottom of the box.
There laid a book of spells called; The old language and enchantments.
She opened it and found a ton of spells inside of it. Hey Thomas. Said Rachel. What about this one. She held up the old dark blue book with a silver spine.
There won't be anything that will help Jayson in there. He replied. None of it is real.
I know. She answered. But it couldn't hurt to look. She took the book up to the clerk and payed three dollars for the used book.
She put in her book bag and left with Thomas back to their homes. She raced up stairs to her light pink bedroom and opened the book on her black wooden desk.
She moved her computer out of the way to make room for the spell book.
It was nearly midnight when she had made it to page two hundred and thirty-five before she fell a sleep with only three hundred pages left in her new found novel. She woke up early and mat Thomas outside so that they could walk to school together.
So have found anything in your book yet? Asked Thomas. No. Replied Rachel. Not yet anyways. So are we going to visit Jayson today?
I don't see why not. He replied. They walked past Mr Gary's house and discovered he wasn't there today like he normally is this time of day. I wonder if he knows about Jayson. Said Rachel. I don't know. He replied. At that they continued their walk to school. It wasn't as bad of day, knowing that they were still close friends and not mad at each other.
No one else at school seemed to care about Jayson anymore. After class, Rachel and Thomas left immediately to the hospital to visit their extremely close and best friend. The doctors still had no idea of what Jayson had. Today they gave him only a week or so to live unless[ by some miracle] he heals.
They all got forty minuets at time so people had a chance to spend time with him just in case something happens.

Rachel and Thomas got to go in after only ten minuets of waiting in the crowed pale colored waiting room. Their eyes again widened at the sight of him. He had almost no color left and had gotten really really skinny. He had trouble breathing and he no longer could even flinch. He looked like he had already passed. That they were looking at his corps
He isn't going to make it, is he? Whispered Rachel, between small streams of tears.
I don't think he is. Replied Thomas. But he could. They read the book about the mako to him again, hoping he would wake up and everything would be okay. They told everything that had happened over the past week but didn't mention their fight, just in case he really could hear them. They didn't want to trouble him any more then he already was. They stayed their whole vising time this time and once they were done they returned home and decided to look at the book store again after they had went home for an hour or so. They made their plans to meet each other outside of Thomas's house this time. After that Thomas went inside and ate quickly so he could research online for some kind of clue to Jayson's illness. He found nothing the only thing close[ that still wasn't even close] was heat stroke or the flu.
Thomas went outside and met Rachel and they walked down to the book shop on the corner of Tyme Ave. and Rose Ln. They searched for hours through every single book in the store and still found nothing.
Ugh! Said Thomas. I'm beginning to think there is no cure to what Jayson has.

Would you like to come over to my house and look through my spell book with me? Asked Rachel.
Sure. He replied. It couldn't hurt. At that they passed by the same clerk who [was reading the same book] and left the small little book shop.
They walked down to Rachel's house, passed her parents in the living room after telling them hi, they went up to Rachel's room. They took turns reading the book and looking up stuff online for about two hours trading places every half hour. Finally They had finished the spell book. They found nothing in it that would help. Rachel picked up again and noticed a page stuck to the back of the book.
She removed it carefully and read it's content. I found something! She shout whispered to Thomas. There was a page stuck to the back of it that list every symptom Jayson has and ingredients to a potion that should heal him. Thomas shut off the computer and went over to see what Rachel was talking about.
Look this list everything he has and the way to cure him. She explained.
He looked at the page and almost believed it but quickly snapped out of it.
It's make believe Rachel. He replied. I only went along with it so we wouldn't get in to another fight.
Well I’m going to try it anyways. She answered. Even it is fake and make believe, I would feel awful if it did work and we didn't try it. I would blame myself for his death. Rachel widened her eyes and looked up at Thomas.
Fine. He said. I'll help.

Rachel then thanked him and began looking over the page. It called for three maple tree leaves, The Tanlon flower, the top of a ping berry, and a single hair from the princess or queen of Tanlon. What are we going to do when we haven't even heard of over half of this weirdness of a potion? Said Thomas. Wait. Isn't Tanlon the kingdom from that book we read to Jayson? Asked Rachel.
Yeah. So? He replied. I read about a spell that would awaken the sleeping kingdom and send it's ruler to the place were the spell was conjured. We can try it if you want Said Thomas. Rachel marked the page with the potion and turned to the page with the spell they needed.
Rachel stood in the middle of her room and chanted the spell. Awaken sleeping kingdom and rise to your glory and aid us in our struggles. Metonwukonlemon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shouted Rachel. Her parents had went to the all night grocery store to pick up a few things, so she wasn't afraid to yell out the spell like it had instructed. They waited a few minuets and nothing happened, But just as they were about to give up, a flash of blinding light filled the room. When the light had vanished a girl [about eighteen] stood in it's place.
Rachel and Thomas were shocked when it worked.
